Trapani offers a variety of fresh and organic food, popular for its methods of cooking preparation. Being myself from Trapani province, I have listed 3 main traditional dishes most represent characteristics of the traditional Sicilian and Italian food.  

1. Caponata di Melanzane 



If you visit Trapani in Sicily, you MUST try the Caponata di Melanzane (eggplant caponata). It is a traditional and vegetarian dish made of fried long eggplants cut into cubes sweet and sour. Although for many locals in Trapani the recipe is kept as a secret, this type of dish holds the cultural tradition closely connected to local farms and row food. 

2. Pesto alla Trapanese




If you want to try pasta as of of the most popular Italian foods, Pesto Alla Trapanese may sound more like you. This is the traditional type of pasta in Trapani prepared with garlic, basil, ground almonds, fresh tomato, and online oil. 

3. Le Chiacchiere



I bet you have never heard of this type of Sicilian food! Though, it is one of the most cultural-related foods in Trapani province, made of very basic ingredients such as flour, eggs, Marsala wine, sugar and butter. The dough is stretched and cut into strips and fried. As a final touch, you spread so powdered sugar on top. 

4. Il Cannolo di Dattilo



Very popular in the world, the cannolo represents the main characteristic of traditional Italian cuisine. In Trapani province, you can find the best cannolo in Dattilo, a little village of 479 habitants offering visitors a culinary food tour made of sheep ricotta and crunchy dough. According to the locals, il Cannolo di Dattilo is the best in the Sicilian region.
